"Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Free . . . Starts and Turns . . . Look At Me!!!" You've learned the skills and maybe even swum in some meets. Now you're ready to sharpen things up just like the big kids. This is the place nearly every LFSC Champion started.

The Yellow Squad is the first step from novice skill development to swim meet performance. Swimmers in the Yellow Squad range in age from 7-11 and are able to consistently demonstrate the Foundation Skills learned in the Mighty Ducks. All swimmers need to be comfortable in a group learning environment, be water safe and able to use a kickboard. Yellow Squad swimmers begin to use additional teaching equipment including a special swimmer's snorkel and fins.

The goal of the Yellow Squad is to build on the skills learned as a Mighty Duck, learn new skills necessary for competition, and introduce both parents and swimmers to swim meets. During your time in the Yellow Squad you will learn how to perform relay skills, develop race skills for the Individual Medley events and become a Distance Duck freestyler!

Competition is not required but is recommended because it helps focus learning and measure progress. Practice attendance of 3 sessions/week has proven to be a sound developmental path for Yellow Squad swimmers.

New swimmers age 7-11 need a skill and learning evaluation with a LFSC coach (usually Coach Laurel) to demonstrate the following Foundation Skills learned in the Mighty Ducks or equivalent prep program:

Proper ready position streamlined push-offs

Front and Back float with both comfort and ease

Knowledge of all starts and turns

Swim 8 x 50 freestyle @ 2:00 with fundamental stroke integrity

Demonstrate 4 x 25 yards of each stroke legally

Most swimmers progress to the Yellow Squad after about 4 seasons preparation in the Yellow Squad. Progress reports for Yellow Squad swimmers are made approximately 3 times during each season and are available from the coaches at that time.
